Invasion of the flies

Last week during one of the last really hot days of summer (well, more like early fall) we came home to find ourselves in a horror movie. As soon as we walked in the door we noticed a faint buzzing sound coming from upstairs. Reluctantly we walked up the stairs while the buzz increased in volume, stepped into the kitchen and were faced with hundreds and hundreds of flies covering our windows.

Gross! I immediately armed myself with a swatter while D ran back down to get the vacuum cleaner. Then we started operation fly extinction. It took us a good 40 minutes to get them all and this is how our vacuum cleaner looked inside.

Yum-yum! Fly guts galore! Our house is a barn conversion and used to be a horse stable up until about a year and a half ago so the flies were probably looking for some horseys, but instead they ended up meeting Mr. Vacuum and Mrs. Swatter. Hah!

  3. OMG! So not cool! We've had a recent cricket "infestation," but I think I'll stick with the crickets over flies! Ick!

  6. That is nothing compared to our fly infestation!! We bought an 100 yr. old farmhouse and well let's just say something died up in the attic...we have a "fly vac" to use each time we go up. The problem has gotten mucho better since we found the cause though !

  10. Ugh! We have that problem in our upstairs, too! Our upstairs isn't used for anything, so I think that's why. We have those imitation lady bugs, too! I'd rather have the flies, quite frankly!

  11. GAAAAAAAAAH! I truly have no problem with flies, but seeing that amount would probably kill me. We had about 20 sugar ants in our kitchen this year one night and I considered that the end of the world...

  12. Hey...I feel like we have the same body. I just read up on your IF trip: I, too, have mid cycle spotting and one active tube (left) and one that is bunk (right). And I am 34. Are you my IF twin? hahaha
